Heartless, Mindless, Helpless

December 20, 2010

She looked at the preacher
As he tried to reach her
But he was too old
And she was too cold

She dreamt of the preacher
What he tried to teach her
She didn’t understand
The messages he sent
She didn’t understand
What his words really meant

So the chance came and went

And he was a witness
To her hearts emptiness
As she went on careless
Ruthless and relentless
The office was her fortress
Where she spied out weakness
Without any kindness
Warmth or tenderness

Trading pain and distress
For financial success
Causing pain and sickness
Heartbreak and neediness
With her thriving business

And he was a witness
Of her hearts emptiness
And he was a witness
Of her complete sadness
And it was this sadness
That turned into madness
And it was this sadness
That destroyed her life

And it did hurt him so much
Because she once was his wife
